Nowhere Girls – 沒女大翻身

TVB reality shows from Hong Kong keep getting better. Last summer, there was Bachelors At War – 求愛大作戰, now this show that focuses on seven women who each personifies one of the seven deadly sins.

At first, I thought this show was going to be a rather shallow, materialistic show, as a lot of Hong Kong reality/lifestyle shows tend to be (ahem, The Art Of Soloing – 好在一個人). But it turned out to be a very uplifting show about breaking down walls, building up confidence, taking care of self while taking care of others, and in general putting the past behind in order to carve a brighter future.

I was especially touched by the story of Heidi – a mainlander turned Hong Kong-ite – and King Jeh, a 53-year-old single mother. I think those two were the strongest women on the show. The others (younger, local girls) were very shallow, conceited, spoiled, and down-right unsympathetic. Totally Princess Syndrome.
